KR1010
Impactor Recycling Plant
Charles L. "Chuck" Lewis, President

Concrete Recycling
Chuck Lewis has been in the excavating and quarry
business for more than 18 years, processing limestone and gravel on his 50 acre site that
also served as a landfill for concrete and asphalt rubble and similar materials. About
eight years ago, Lewis started recycling the incoming rubble to sell for profit and to
provide compact fill and cover for his own land. L&M's recycling operation produces
six reusable materials: L-304, L-411, L-57, L-8, L-2, and concrete sand. L&M also
mines gravel on site. Gravel 3/4" and larger is screened out and crushed to smaller
sizes with the KR1010.
Chuck Lewis: "For seven years, we had a local
recycler, Complete Resources, come on our site and process our rubble. They used a Grasan
KR1313 road-portable recycling system and did a tremendous job. The equipment is durable,
dependable, and very efficient. I've know the Grasan people for years. They make great
products. I considered setting up my own recycling plant but couldn't justify the cost
based on my volume."
"Then last year, Grasan came out with
their KR1010. It's a compact, economical, highly-mobile impact crusher plant designed to
handle smaller volumes - up to 150 tons an hour, in cramped city locations. I don't care
about the compact and mobile features. I'm in the wide open spaces and don't have to move
from place to place. But the KR1010 is just the right size and cost for my operation, and
it's as rugged as Grasan's big crushing plants. It's doing a great job: dependable,
efficient, low maintenance. That's the lifeblood of profits in a recycling operation. High
maintenance will pick your pocket and downtime will kill you."
"If my recycling volume increases and I decide to get a bigger plant
some day, I'm sure my KR1010 will have good resale value. These small crushing plants are
getting very popular, and Grasan quality holds up." |
