Concrete recycling
Swift River opened its concrete and asphalt rubble
crushing operation in July, 1991. The facility is considered to be a showplace for
recycling efficiency and clean, smooth operation, producing 1", 2", and oversize
3" to 4" recycled materials. But it didn't start out that way.
Carmen Pariso: "At first we leased equipment -
I won't mention the brand, that gave us nothing but trouble and downtime. Since then,
we've switched to Grasan and doubled our production. We learned the hard way that
equipment selection boils down to thorough checking to find the right system for you.
Success in recycling depends on a well-designed system with quality equipment that meets
the demands of the recycler and the requirements of the market. The Grasan people are the
most cooperative I've ever dealt with."
Fred Schmidt:" We visited a number of recycling
facilities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Canada to learn about every major
equipment brand before choosing Grasan. Before you decide on any brand, see the equipment
in full operation and talk to the people who use it."

Recycling asphalt shingles with C&D debris
Tony Aarts: "Recycling building demolition
materials is a major part of our business; so we have a lot of asphalt shingles to handle.
I visited the Grasan factory and worked with their engineers to get the exact system I
needed, including the asphalt shingle aspect. First we run the shingles through a
shredder. Then we run the shredded shingles through our customized, heavy-duty KR1313
impactor crushing plant to produce a minus 3/4-inch all-recycled shingle product. Finally,
we make a mixture of 50% recycled asphalt shingles and 50% recycled asphalt rubble and
sell it as a sub-base for roads and highways in Canada and the United States. It works
extremely well: fills holes nicely and eliminates dust."
T.A. Heavy Equipment also crushes concrete,
limestone, wood, and general demolition materials with their Grasan KR1313 system.
