Crushing demolition rubble and limestone
Bierman also owns an excavating business which was
producing so much C&D rubble that he had trouble disposing of it. So, in 1995, he
purchased a road-portable Grasan KR1315 recycling system to handle his own excavation
debris, as well as rubble trucked in by construction and demolition contractors. He also
uses the KR1315 to crush limestone.
Jim Bierman ""My associates and I knew
very little about recycling. So we started checking out the equipment manufacturers and
asking questions. We found Grasan the most knowledgeable and helpful, and they could
provide the best and most cost-effective system for what we wanted to do. They would have
custom-built a system, but that wasn't necessary in our case. Grasan had most of what we
needed in stock."
"Our grasan system is durable, dependable and
needs little maintenance. The impact crusher easily handles over 300 tons per hour of
C&D rubble and over 400 tons per hour of shot limestone. This is the first Grasan
equipment we've ever bought. I'm very pleased with it and with the prompt, professional,
cordial service we get from Grasan."
Innovative recently purchased a new Grasan KR1010
recycle plant for their Louisville operation.

C&D debris recycling
Bill Booker: "Mid-America Recycling was formed
in 1988, and we used a jaw crusher-based recycling system initially, but we experienced to
many problems. Jaw crushers aren't efficient enough for concrete recycling, have problems
with rebar, and our jaw system took much too long to move. We decided to switch to a plant
that would be easier to move and has a crusher designed for recycling. We investigates
several manufacturers before selecting the Grasan KR1315 impactor-based system. Grasan
pioneered in concrete recycling in America, and they have more experience with
impactor-based recycling systems than anyone else. They understood our needs, gave us some
very good advice, and customized the system design accordingly."
Mid-America's plant consists of a Grasan
road-portable KR1315 electric-powered impactor plant, 48" x 55' screen feed conveyor
with electromagnetic separator, 6' x 20' horizontal screening plant with 3-deck screen,
24' x 55' oversize return conveyor, 36" x 35' portable transfer conveyor with
electromagnetic separator, 36" x 75' road-portable radial stacker and a complete
electrical control system.
Mid-America has just purchased a second Grasan
KRH1515 recycling system for 1998 delivery.

Demolition debris recycling
Modern Recycling, Inc. of Florida utilizes a
portable, diesel-powered, Grasan-engineered KR1315 rubble crushing system with air sorting
tower and magnetic separator to recycle more than 86% of incoming construction and
demolition debris at its Collier County, Florida landfill operation. Recycled materials
include fines used as landfill cover, aggregates for road-building, wood products marketed
as fuel, cardboard that is baled and marketed, and ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Bret Minet: "The efficiency, versatility, and
durability of the system are crucial to successful landfill recycling. We investigated
various recycling systems and toured several plants. We chose Grasan because the impact
crusher handles just about anything. And with the magnetic separator and air sorting
tower, the Grasan system segregates all the products without getting too labor-intensive.
The Grasan air sorter gives a higher quality product than any sink.float system I've seen,
and without the maintenance problems. Water-based dust suppression at the feed hopper,
screen and fines conveyor keeps emissions to a minimum. Electric power is provided by a
Caterpillar diesel generator housed in a 40-ft. trailer. The whole system is controlled by
one operator stationed at the crusher plant."
Modern currently operates two Grasan recycling
systems.
